Update to list of full core offer schools
The next update to the list of the full core offer schools on DirectGov is happening in October 2009 using data provided by LAs as at 30th September 2009. LAs may want to ensure that the latest data on schools’ core offer provision is recorded on ESP in time for this update. The deadline of 30th September 2009 has been previously provided to LAs in TDA’s ES self-assessment traffic light tool and the DCSF’s briefing for ESRAs on the national ES directory sent out in September 2008. C4EO Examples of effective local practice
As mentioned at the recent C4EO workshops and conferences you attended, C4EO is keen to hear about examples of effective local practice. There were some great examples given during the discussion groups, and some exciting conversations happening over lunch. You can turn these positive anecdotes in to validated practice examples – which would allow colleagues across the country to benefit from your achievements as well as showcasing success in your local area.
Click here for an electronic version of the effective local practice submission form. We recognise that many of you work across different themes and so have created a cross-theme letter to preface the form.
Please be sure to return to C4EOteam@nfer.ac.uk as detailed in the letter.

Parents Leaflet & ES Media Toolkit from the DCSF
DCSF, TDA and partners are running a summer holiday activities campaign with advertising and PR to parents and promotion of the need to ensure opportunities are available and accessed which will target LAs, schools and partners. Two DCSF products which may be of use in following up on this:
Extended Services Leaflet for Parents: http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/_doc/13041/7723_ES%20Leaflet.pdf
Publicising Extended Services – toolkit: http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/_doc/13099/extendedtoolkit.pdf
In addition TDA, with the Arts Council and Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, has produced ‘Culture for All’ a booklet on how schools and cultural organisations can better join up to ensure better design of services locally and better access to these services – part of the drive to ensure schools are a hub and can add value and signpost to local provision. This will be on our website shortly and will be promoted from mid-June alongside messages which support the holiday campaign. (uploaded 09/06/09)
Maths and science CPD courses
The TDA has now nationally launched 2 exciting new programmes of CPD. The new Science Additional Specialism Programme and Mathematics Development Programme for Teachers are aimed at non specialist teachers of physics, chemistry or maths. They are designed to develop participants' subject and pedagogical knowledge to help them teach these subjects to learners aged 11-19 with more confidence, expertise and enthusiasm. Both courses are spread over an intensive summer start and the following academic year, and are flexible in their structure and content to reflect the needs of individual participants. Both offer academic accreditation at H or M level. On successful completion of the course, participants meeting the eligibility criteria will qualify for a £5,000 incentive.
Our website carries details of course providers at www.tda.gov.uk/sciencecpdcourse and www.tda.gov.uk/mathscpdcourse. Places are still available for this year's intake (courses start in July). (uploaded 19/05/09)
Extended services - a toolkit for governors
A new and improved edition of the TDA's Extended Services Toolkit for governors - reflecting changes to the agenda, as well as the new duties on well-being and community cohesion - is now available. The toolkit was created in partnership with the DCSF, extended services delivery partners, and national governor organisations including the NGA. The toolkit is designed to help governors working with their schools, whether the school is 'full core offer' or not, to ensure that existing or planned services are meeting the needs of pupils, families and the community - and are aligned with the school's vision and priorities. Think Fathers Campaign
Please find information on the Think Fathers campaign being run jointly by DCSF and Fatherhood Institute, the National Academy for Parenting Practitioners and The Children's Society. The flyer provides general information on the campaign and the information sheet details on how local stakeholders and dads can be involved.

Please could you could disseminate through your local networks in children's centres, extended schools and the third sector and would draw your attention to the Shed Tour which is already underway. Our campaign partners have already been in touch with their local contacts to let them know about the tour - and we had a good turnout at the Newcastle event - but if you are able to let your contacts know that it will be appearing that would be really helpful. We want to get as many dads as possible to visit the Shed so we can generate plenty of testimony on what it means to be a modern dad, which we can use as the campaign progresses. (uploaded 05/05/09)

Developing the Workforce for the 21st Century School Community Event
CSF network group is a virtual group of over 300 members from all phases of schools and local authorities across the country, including heads and other leadership team members, teachers, support staff and governors. The Network members work in and around schools to help the Department keep in touch with the issues affecting you at any given time.
The kind of people being sought will:
The DCSF would like members of the network to provide feedback in a variety of ways, depending on the nature and urgency of the topic. Members will have the chance to take part in the network in their own right and will not 'represent' any school or organisation. They will be free to voice their honest opinions, whatever their length of service or involvement in the school sector.
The network will not be a political or 'lobbying' tool either for government or participants.
No payments will be made to members other than reimbursement of direct expenses to attend meetings etc.
If you would like to join, you are asked to complete this form and submit it ASAP.
