Contributing to the reduction in exclusions
Early intervention is key, attend/set-up meetings with all involved to look at the issue and ideally become part of a holistic plan to support. One-to-one behaviour sessions, i.e. working on an anger issue if child is unable to cope and always misbehaving in the playground. Link school and home with strategies to manage behaviour, encourage everyone to be consistent and use the same strategies so that the child receives the same message, recognise any effort the child is making every small; achievement should be praised and celebrated by everyone. Be realistic and encourage all concerned to set achievable goals. Link with EAI if not already involved. Jenny Joslin, Somerset PSA
