Delivering courses and training
- Computer, maths and literacy courses to enable parents to help children's learning
- Together with Family and Adult Learning, we ran a 10 week jewellery course with parents. As a result, one parent set up her own jewellery business which is thriving, despite the financial climate!
- Cooking with Children classes are always really popular. Katie O'Brien, PSA Plympton St Maurice Primary School
- We offered two courses to parents through Community Learning. The first was Basic Computer Skills, a non-accredited, confidence building course that engaged 13 parents. This course was the start of many positive home-school relationships being built that have impacted positively on families over the last academic year, some of whom have young children who have just started school or are about to start, making that early intervention process easier and more effective. The second course was an accredited Maths course. We held consultations with parents and this was the subject they highlighted. Up to 11 parents attended. Six achieved a Level 1 and one person gained a Level 2 (GCSE equivalent). This was particularly positive for this parent as she missed out on qualifications when at school and is now working towards further qualifications to enable her eventually to do support work in schools. Matt Westcott, PSA, Banwell Primary School.

One of the most successful aspects at Banwell has been the key link between the PSA and Community Learning Teams. Many of the parents are very eager to access more learning, are able to engage with and understand their children’s learning more and have proved a very proactive group, feeding back on school developments as well as suggesting school areas they would like to see actioned or improved. Harry Cadwallader, Headteacher, Banwell Primary School.
